General Requirements

If you apply for the Business Investor Stream, you must:

• Net business and personal assets: Applicants must have net business and personal assets of at least AUD $2.25 million. This includes assets such as real estate, businesses, and cash.
• Designated investment: Applicants must make a designated investment of at least AUD $1.5 million in an Australian state or territory. This can be in the form of government bonds, managed funds, or direct investment in Australian companies.
• Age: Applicants must be under 55 years of age at the time of application, although some exemptions may apply.
• Business experience: Applicants must have a successful business career and a proven track record of successful investment activity.
• English language proficiency: Applicants must meet the English language proficiency requirements, which vary depending on the visa stream and the applicant’s background.
• Health and character requirements: Applicants must meet the health and character requirements set by the Australian government.
• Nomination: Applicants must be nominated by an Australian state or territory government agency and be invited to apply for the visa.

Nomination and Application Process

• Expression of Interest (EOI): The first step in applying for the Business Investor Stream of the Investor Visa is to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) through the SkillSelect system. The EOI should outline the applicant’s business and investment experience, their designated investment, and their proposed business activity in Australia.
• Nomination: After submitting an EOI, applicants must be nominated by an Australian state or territory government agency. The nomination process varies depending on the state or territory but generally involves submitting a detailed business proposal and demonstrating the economic benefits of the proposed investment to the local area.
• Invitation to Apply: Once an applicant has been nominated by a state or territory government agency, they will receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for the visa. The ITA will outline the next steps in the application process and provide a deadline for submitting a complete application.
• Visa Application: To apply for the Business Investor Stream of the Investor Visa, applicants must submit a complete visa application, including evidence of their designated investment and net assets, proof of their English language proficiency, and evidence of their business and investment experience. Applicants must also undergo health and character assessments.
• Visa Grant: If the visa application is successful, the applicant will receive a visa grant, which allows them and their family members to live and work in Australia for up to four years. Successful applicants can also apply for an extension of their visa for an additional two years.
